The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has fined six mobile phone companies a total of Tsh38.1 billion (about $16.4 million) for violating the quality of telecoms services on their networks.
However, the authority has instructed the telcos not to wire the money to TCRA but instead use it to invest in improving service quality within 90 days.
According to the regulator, Tigo was fined Tsh13 billion ($5.6 million), Airtel Tsh11.5 billion ($5 million), Vodacom Tsh7.8 billion ($3.4 million), Halotel Tsh3.4 billion ($1.5 million), TTCL Tsh1.3 billion ($0.5 million) and Zantel Tsh1 billion ($0.4 million). ....

Diamond Platinumz sheds cries as Magufuli bans Wasafi TV for 6 months
Wasafi TV has been banned by the Tanzanian Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) for six months over allegedly violating broadcast regulations.
According to TCRA, the decision was agreed upon by both parties after a meeting with the TV station management.
TCRA Acting Director Johannes Kalungule disclosed that the offence was committed on January 1 2020 when the station aired Singer Gigy Money dancing at the Tumewesha festival while dressed scantily.
This happens only three months after Wasafi radio was also banned for seven days effective September 12, 2020.
According to then TCRA Director James Kilaba, the ban was as a result of violating communication regulations and airing offensive language on August 1, 2020, and August 4, 2020, on two programs, “Switch” and “Mashamsham” ....

To deal with rising complaints against mobile phone companies in Tanzania that are allegedly robbing customers of airtime and Internet bundle charges the communication ministry has issued a three-month ultimatum, according to a report by Daily News.
Reportedly, Faustine Ndugulile, the Communication and Information Technology Minister has administered the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) to end the following complaints in three months. The issue was released earlier on Monday in Dar es Salaam, in his TCRA familiarisation tour, in which Ndugulile said that TCRA should address the public complaints of being overcharged on airtime bundles and Internet, as per the report. ....
