Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts student Drew Pirtle will compete for a $20,000 grand prize at the Poetry Out Loud National Finals May 9-10 in Washington, D.C., after taking first place in the state competition last month at the King Opera House in Van Buren.
In addition to performing with 20th-century masters and having his own music catalogued in multiple releases, the composer has been a decades-long creative catalyst for the Alamo City.
