Alabama Vintage exclusively sells old school Crimson Tide souvenirs, from snapbacks and track jackets from the 80s and 90s to a bench that was owned by Fred Sington, the All-American linebacker who led the Crimson Tide to the national championship in 1930. Aggressive Testing to Save the Day Testing for the coronavirus is critical for tracking its spread and determining when isolation and containment measures should be put into place. However, it hasn’t been easy for students and faculty to get tested on certain US university campuses. For example, saliva-testing at the University of South Carolina is entirely voluntary and had to be stopped entirely in September after a staff member who administered the tests became ill. The university had already reported over 1,000 cases by then. In comparison to such lackadaisical measures in the US, universities in Singapore adopted aggressive testing measures to nip the virus in the bud. NUS, which had resorted to online lectures for a brief period, was quick to resume campus operations. The streets were packed out from Buffalo Phil s to GloryBound Gyro Company as Tide fans danced, sang, drank and embraced in celebration. The Tuscaloosa Police Department and UAPD were both on the scene to monitor more than a thousand drunken partiers that were squished into about two blocks of University Boulevard. Thousands of fans filled the streets of Tuscaloosa on the night of January 11, celebrating Alabama Crimson Tide’s college football championship win against Ohio State, despite warnings against gathering and amid rising coronavirus cases in the state.Footage by journalist James Benedetto shows a densely packed crowd filling the Strip in Tuscaloosa.Ahead of the championship game, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox had warned against gatherings. “We can’t have block parties this year,” he said in a Twitter video. “There will be a time and place to celebrate, but this is not the time,” he said.The daily average of new coronavirus cases in Alabama for the week to January 11 was 30 percent higher than the previous two weeks.
