ANA Installs Hands-Free Lavatory Doors on Planes

A month after becoming the first Asian carrier — and one of four airlines globally — to be awarded Skytrax’s five-star Covid-19 safety rating, All Nippon Airways is introducing a new product to reduce the risk of viral transmission via a particular high-touch surface in the aircraft cabin. ANA has partnered with aircraft interior manufacturer Jamco Corporation to develop the world’s first hands-free toilet doors on a plane. The innovative door was developed and tested last year as part of the ANA Care Promise initiative, and are being rolled out on domestic flights from May 1. ....

Jamco America Highlights Machine Shop Capabilities for Robotics Industry


In nearly 30 years of operation, the Jamco machine shop has expanded its capabilities from basic machining to extensive, cutting edge equipment. The shop s capabilities include: sheet metal bending, profiling, and forming; countersinking, dimpling, riveting, and other preparations for sub-assembly; large 4-axis Horizontal milling and machining; smaller 3- and 4-axis Vertical machining; and lathe turning for round components. The large 4-axis machine centers hold 240 tools each, and are accompanied by an automated 36 pallet cell, for highly flexible, efficient milling 24/7, ensuring rapid turnaround time.
One of the shop s most unique capabilities is delivered by its freeform CNC tube bender, installed in summer 2020. This machine forms a round tube into a unique tubing frame, and is used to produce Jamco s industry-leading Venture business class seats with embedded aluminum edge trim. Jamco and ANA Partner to Test the World’s First Hands-Free Lavatory Door
Jamco Corporation announces its new, hands-free lavatory lock knob and door handle, developed in collaboration with All Nippon Airways (ANA), a Skytrax certified 5 Star Airline in Japan. For passengers that do not wish to use their fingers or hands to touch the lavatory door, Jamco and ANA provide a solution that allows them to use their forearm or elbow to open the door and return to their seats with their hands remaining clean. The hands-free lavatory lock knob and door handle are low-cost items which does not burden airline operational budget. This can be installed simply over night by airlines to the existing lavatories without major modification. ANA is the development partner for the hands-free products, expected to be launched soon as the first operator, which furthers the ANA Care Promise, the company’s commitment to ensure health and safety of passengers with hygienic environments ....
