18 Apr 2021 / 19:21 H. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia today reported 2,195 Covid-19 new cases and eight fatalities, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said. The latest figures take the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 375,054 with the death toll now at 1,378. Malaysia recorded 2,195 new cases yesterday. Dr Noor Hisham, in a Twitter post, said Sarawak was back to being the state with the highest number of new cases, reporting 508 infections today, followed by Selangor (431), Johor (387) and Kelantan with 332 cases. Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile, reported 176 new cases, followed by Sabah (112), Penang (84), Negeri Sembilan (42), Perak (35), Kedah (30), Terengganu (16), Melaka and Pahang 15 cases each, Labuan (6), Putrajaya (3) and Perlis (3). ....
Covid (2) KUCHING: Some 99 students of a secondary school in Ulu Balingian, Selangau, have tested positive for Covid-19 in a new outbreak detected on Saturday (April 17), says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah. The Deputy Chief Minister said the index case of the Ulu Balingian cluster was a 16-year-old student who was confirmed positive on April 16 after undergoing screening for symptomatic individuals at the Selangau health clinic on April 13. Following active case detection among the index case s family and students and staff at the school, the cluster has 101 confirmed cases so far, comprising 99 students and two other contacts, he said at the state disaster management committee s briefing here on Saturday. ....

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 Eight new Covid-19 clusters were detected by the Health Ministry today, three of which are located in schools or education institutions. Sarawak recorded the second-highest total with 512 cases. In Selangor, 623 cases were linked to clusters or were identified from close contact tracings of active Covid-19 patients. Eight new Covid-19 clusters were also reported, bringing the total number of active clusters to 347. Four of the new clusters were from workplaces, three from schools and education institutions, and one was a community cluster. The Jalan Ding Lik Kwong cluster (16 cases) in Sibu Sarawak, the Jalan Damai Tawau (14 cases) and Bukit Quoin (11 cases) clusters in Tawau, Sabah, and the Jalan Wawasan Lima cluster (10 cases) in Batu Pahat, Johor were linked to workplaces.
