Sunderland AFC is delighted to announce the signing of Ross Stewart for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance. The striker has penned an initial two-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light, with the club having an option for a further year, as he arrives from Scottish Premiership side Ross County. Stewart becomes SAFCâs fourth signing of the January transfer window following the additions of Carl Winchester, Jake Vokins and Jordan Jones. The 24-year-old joined Ross County in August 2018 and helped fire the Staggies to the Scottish Championship title and the Scottish Challenge Cup during his first season at Victoria Park. ....
Sunderland moved back into the Sky Bet League One play-off zone courtesy of a point against Gillingham that would have been all three had it not been for some late drama. The Black Cats held and lost the lead twice, with Jordan Graham firing in the last minute leveller for the Gills at the Stadium of Light. Aiden McGeady and Grant Leadbitterâs goals looked to have secured a third win in a row to lift Sunderland up to fifth â in the end they have to settle for being sixth before the rest of the division play today. Lee Johnsonâs fifth league win since taking over looked on the cards as early as the sixth minute when McGeadyâs strike from distance flew in the far corner. ....
Tom Flanagan returns to the Sunderland starting line-up for the first time since January 2 to face Gillingham at the Stadium of Light this afternoon. The lunch-time kick-off sees head coach Lee Johnson make two changes to the side that started the win at Ipswich in midweek, with the Black Cats also naming new loan signing from Southampton Jake Vokins on the bench. Johnson has brought Flanagan back into the back four as a replacement for Bailey Wright, who has been monitored since suffering a head injury at Portman Road. The other change is the inclusion of Jack Diamond in the final third, with centre-midfielder Carl Winchester dropping to the bench. ....

Signing on loan until the end of the 2020-21 season, the left-back moves to the Stadium of Light from Premier League outfit Southampton. Vokins has made two Premier League appearances to date, earning his debut in July 2020 against Brighton & Hove Albion before starting against Arsenal in the top-flight earlier this week.  The 20-year-old has regularly been a part of Ralph Hasenhüttlâs matchday squad this season, whilst also featuring heavily for the South Coast clubâs Under-23s. Vokins has also represented England at youth level, turning out for the Three Lions at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level. ....
