Subscriber only Methamphetamine has played a role in the lives of at least half a dozen Coast residents who have had their day in Maroochydore District Court this year. From drug deals to stabbings and even a torture, the common denominator for some of the most shocking cases heard has been the highly addictive substance. The impact methamphetamine has on users is heard like a broken record in Sunshine Coast courts as lawyers and defendants repeatedly share how addictions have broken relationships, fuelled crime and caused financial hardship. Crown prosecutor Stipe Drinovac told a court last week that methamphetamine wreaked havoc on the community as a Woombye dad was placed on parole for dealing the drug.

Subscriber only An early morning raid on a family home in Woombye which uncovered meth, marijuana and cutting agents was triggered by a suspicious phone call, a court heard. At 5am on December 3, 2018, police raided Jake James Mcdonald s house after intercepting a phone call the then 28-year-old received about a drug deal. Mcdonald, his partner and their young daughter were in the main bedroom at the time, where police found a clip seal bag with 0.013g of methamphetamine in a cupboard. During the search police discovered 645g of a moist, off white substance used as a cutting agent, crown prosecutor Stipe Drinovac said.
