The HSE Board of School Trustees approved her hiring in
a 5-2 vote
at a special meeting on Thursday, ending a process that started late last year when current superintendent Allen Bourff announced his retirement. Board members Brad Boyer and Suzanne Thomas were the no votes.
She’s currently assistant superintendent for the School Town of Munster and starts as the leader of HSE on July 1. She will be the first woman to lead the district in more than a decade.
The appointment wasn t without controversy. About two dozen protesters gathered outside of the meeting ahead of the vote, urging the board to vote no. They held signs that said things such as qualified staff matters, education not indoctrination and teach our kids how to think not what to think.
