The passage of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) has provided school districts with essential funds to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this influx of funds, it’s necessary to ensure thoughtful planning to effectively invest these new resources. High-poverty districts, in particular, will have significant resources to help students recover academically, socially, and emotionally from the pandemic.

The Equality Act, which would prohibit  discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation and gender identity, is moving to the Senate after being passed by the House of Representatives – and it could affect what s taught in classrooms.
The Equality Act would enable protections within education, particularly on how teachers implement LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum.

When Healing to Action, a survivor-led organization working to end gender-based violence in Chicago, teamed up with the Chicago Teachers Union to assess the city’s implementation of a 2013 mandate to teach sexual education in public schools, they uncovered vast disparities. Seventy percent of Windy City K-12 youth were not receiving the full sequence of intended instruction, missing critical lessons on subjects as diverse as anatomy, sexual desire and expression, gender identity, pregnancy, sexual abuse, personal hygiene, sexually transmitted diseases, domestic and dating violence, contraception and abortion. ....
