The delayed winter sports season kicked off Jan. 11 with the Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball squad making a trip north to play Caravel Academy. The Royals’ fell in a close 78-70 masked contest.
The Bucs came out hot, jumping to a quick 15-9 lead. The halftime break found the Bucs up 34-26. The Royals outscored Caravel 19-18 in the third, and narrowed the deficit to two in the fourth quarter, but they ultimately fell 78-70 in the final minute.
Jayson Handy led the Royals with 17 points. Gabe Herling added 13, including two from behind the three-point line. DaMir Camper totaled 10 with a three, while Chase Hesson chipped in eight. Jayden Palmer and Loubens Fleurima each had seven, with Fleurima dropping two threes. Jeremiah Hannah hit a three and a foul shot, while Carter Breasure scored four.
