While this year was not the best for partying, Mackay is determined to shoot out of 2020 with a bang.
The MECC is hosting a free New Yearâs Eve family entertainment extravaganza from 6pm to 9pm.
The Mackay Regional Council is sponsoring the event through a fireworks spectacular at the Mackay Showgrounds.
Community and Client Services director Angela Hays said council funding would allow the fireworks to be shot higher than in previous years, allowing spectators to enjoy them while social distancing throughout the city.
âWe are sponsoring fireworks displays at 9pm and at midnight, so make sure you head outside to enjoy the pyrotechnics if youâre able to,â Ms Hays said.
