New battle for patients with lives ruined by implants for bowel problems

Jacqui Shaw used to be the life and soul of the party. Even a hysterectomy in 2001 aged 32, after having two sons, didn’t slow her down.
She bounced back running after her boys, Dan, now 28, and Sam, 24, and having fun with her beautician colleagues.
Those days are long gone. Jacqui, now 54, finds it hard to walk upstairs or do tasks such as ironing, and has pain all over her body 24/7, like a ‘blanket of fog that never lifts’.
A trip out near her home in Stoke-on-Trent with husband Mark, 54, who runs a window frame business, leaves her in agony for days. ....

Corsham woman supports International Mesh Awareness Day after 'years of unnecessary pain'

Chloe Thurston, from Corsham, was just 15-years-old when she underwent rectopexy surgery for a suspected internal bowel prolapse, which has left her in debilitating pain and eventually stopped her bowel functioning normally.
Ever since, she has been unable to go to the toilet naturally and with lower back pain. She has to perform a painful two-hour procedure to irrigate her bowel every night.
Now, aged 22, Ms Thurston is urging the government to provide a full update on how it is responding to the First Do No Harm report, which was published in July last year.
Today (May 1) marks International Mesh Awareness Day. ....

A mother-of-two left in terrible pain after a medical procedure is taking on the government in a national fight for answers.
Jacqui Shaw, from Audley, underwent pioneering surgery after recognising her symptoms on the Embarrassing Bodies TV show.
But the 54-year-old was immediately in pain, needed further operations, and more than a decade later her problems continue. ....
