Esther Ashby-Coventry A consultants report has warned the Mackenzie District Council that this heavy machinery display in Twizel presents a number of risks. The Twizel Community Board agrees a heavy machinery display at the entrance to the town is not a playground but it does not want to stop people from interacting with it. The board, at a meeting on Monday, discussed a Mackenzie District Council commissioned report which highlighted the dangers of public access to the machinery, pointing out that council would likely be liable for any injury or incident that takes place on the machinery. The machinery display presents a number of risks, the report from consultants Xyst Ltd said as it recommended that it be fenced off and keep off signs be installed. ....

We want to see the costings. “There was a report saying all the things that are wrong with it, but there was no report saying what it would cost to remedy that or what to do next.” “We’re a little bit reluctant to move on anything after what happened with the hydro slide, where we were told that the hydro slide needed repairs and the next thing it’s gone. “It seems to be that anything that can be taken away from Twizel is done in a flash but anything that we want to have takes forever.
