DA suspends embattled Limpopo leader Jacques Smalle Share Pretoria - Embattled Limpopo DA leader, Jacques Smalle, has been formally suspended by the party following fraud and tax evasion allegations. This after the party’s Legal Federal Commission (LFC) found that Smalle had been dodging the taxman by getting his tax allowance paid into the bank account of his aide. Pretoria News understands the party has since been put under administration following the sanctions. Federal Council deputy chairperson, James Masango, and MP Annelie Lotriet, have been appointed as joint administrators. In a memo seen by the Pretoria News, circulated among members, the party states that Smalle was suspended from Thursday last week.

DA Limpopo leader Jacques Smalle has been suspended. He is alleged to have fiddled expenses while the party s leadership took no action against him. Smalle will face a disciplinary hearing.  The Democratic Alliance s federal executive (FedEx) has suspended the party s Limpopo leader of nine years, Jacques Smalle, for alleged tax fraud and abuse of party funds in relation to expenses.  In a letter to party representatives last week Thursday, which News24 has a copy of, FedEx representatives James Masango and Annelie Lotriet said the structure had resolved at its meeting that day that Smalle should be suspended, . from any and all activities of the Democratic Alliance , with effect from that day.

Ba-Phalaborwa R30m tenders probe still ongoing - Hawks Share Pretoria - The Hawks in Limpopo said the investigations of corruption and maladministration, related to tenders worth R30 million in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, were still far from being complete. Speaking to Pretoria News yesterday, police spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said there were many leads in the investigations that were pointing them in the right direction. Last month the Hawks raided the municipal offices and seized documents as part of an investigation into the R30 million tender saga. He said: “As part of ongoing investigations into the allegations of fraud and corruption on the awarding of tenders by the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, we have conducted a search and seizure operation at the municipal offices, the municipality is under investigation for awarding tenders worth more than R30 million, without following due processes. During the operation we seized documents and laptops.

DA postpones Limpopo elective congress over abuse of party funds 16 March 2021 - 12:15 Image: SIMPHIWE NKWALI The DA has postponed its Limpopo elective congress, due to be held this weekend, after revelations that the party had failed to act on allegations of abusing party funds levelled against provincial chairperson Jacques Smalle. Smalle, who is seeking re-election as provincial chairperson, is facing serious allegations of possible tax fraud after an investigation by the DA Federal Legal Commission (FLC). The Sunday Times reported a fortnight ago that an investigation by the FLC revealed Smalle had avoided paying tax on his travel allowances by arranging for his stipend to be paid into the bank account of one of his office aides.
