The City of Monticello is working with the Austin Strong Foundation to bring an inclusive playground to Monticello.
The project began rolling in January of last year and the Austin Strong Foundation jumped on board a few months ago. Monticello City Parks and Rec Director Jacob Oswald says while it hasn’t been determined what the name of the playground will be, they do know it will be dedicated in the name of Austin Smith in some fashion.
6-year old Austin Smith died in 2016 after battling brain cancer.
The City is currently in the planning stages of the playground, which currently covers about 5,000 square feet. The size of the playground will be determined by how much funds are raised, with fundraising to begin soon.
