Tampa-based Southport Financial Services expects to buy the unused parking structure at the edge of Springfield at the end of May for site redevelopment into Parkview Commons.
Southport Financial Senior Vice President Michael Molinari said March 11 that construction of the 122-unit affordable rental community should start by the end of 2021 for completion in a year.
The almost 1.5-acre site is at 901 N. Main St., bordered by Main, State, Ocean and Orange streets, in the Springfield area north of Downtown Jacksonville.
He said Southport will “bring much needed affordable housing to the historically underserved Springfield neighborhood.”
Molinari said the almost $30 million development will have ground-floor parking topped by a four-story building that will have a leasing center, library, gym, community space and more amenities. ....

Interior demolition permit OK'd for former Community Connections building | Jax Daily Record | Jacksonville Daily Record

The city issued a permit March 9 for Realco Recycling Co. Inc. to remove interior finishes at the proposed Lofts at Cathedral Downtown at 325 E. Duval St., but there are no immediate plans to start the work.
It’s a step toward Vestcor Inc.’s plan to turn the former Community Connections building into a multifamily project.
The permit application involves the “removal of interior finish systems to reveal structure for future design for building remodel for future use.”
Realco Recycling is the contractor for the $198,000 project involving 37,000 square feet of space.
Ryan Hoover, president of Vestcor’s TVC Development Inc., said previously that the interior demolition would provide “a better idea of what we are working with on the inside for design.” ....
