UMass Lowell became a charter signatory of Second Nature s Climate Commitment in 2016.
The Climate Commitment reaffirms UMass Lowell s commitment to combating the effects of climate change and ensuring the university is sustainable and resilient as effects from climate change are increasingly felt in the region.
The university first pledged it s commitment to climate neutrality in 2007 with the signing of what was then known as the American College and University President s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) by University of Massachusetts President Jack M. Wilson. President Martin T. Meehan, then UMass Lowell Chancellor, was immediately supportive of the initiative and spotlighted work on energy efficiency and sustainability.
