Hattiesburg detective appeals decision that allows lawsuit to continue

A Hattiesburg police officer who is being sued for allegedly violating the civil rights of a man falsely accused of murder has filed notice of appeal, seeking full dismissal of the claims against him. Arthur Jones of Gulfport said in court documents he told police he was at a nightclub in Gulfport at the time of the shooting. Video footage at the club later showed Jones was in Gulfport as he claimed. In addition, Jones cellphone records show he was in Gulfport, not Hattiesburg, on the morning of the murder. On July 5, 2015, 17-year-old Jabarri Goudy, a star football player at Collins High School, was shot multiple times outside a Hattiesburg nightclub around 2 a.m. Goudy died later the same day at Forrest General Hospital.
