Holding that direct elections to legislative assemblies “cannot be put on hold” until statehood is restored, a five-judge Constitution bench has directed the Election Commission to conduct J&K elections by September 30, 2024.
"Not conducting elections here is leading J&K to a disaster. People have the right to elect their representatives. The government and ECI put the ball in each other s court. They are hiding behind each other, and people of J&K are suffering because of that," Abdulah claimed.
