Top leaders of the Sajjad Lone-headed People’s Conference (PC), an important constituent of the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), met in Srinagar on Monday, with most leaders weighing in for the discontinuation of any electoral tie-up within the alliance.
Mr. Lone, who faced public criticism from party leaders Imran Reza Ansari and Abdul Ghani Vakil over his move to stitch an electoral alliance for the District Development Council (DDC) polls with allies, chaired the meeting. Srinagar: People s Conference chairperson Sajad Lone on Tuesday announced his party s exit from the seven-party conglomerate People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), saying some constituents of the grouping had fielded proxy candidates in the district development council (DDC) elections.

The PAGD has got a clear majority in six districts, followed by the BJP in five in the first-ever DDC election. However, the alliance of seven mainstream regional parties has got an edge over the saffron party in six other districts as it is just short of one or two seats for the majority, while the BJP is in the driver s seat in one district. ....
