Trotsky’s October 23, 1923 letter is the first comprehensive document in the inner-party struggle in which he was forced to answer, in detail, not only political attacks but also distortions of the history of the Bolshevik Party and the October Revolution.
This letter, sent by Leon Trotsky on October 8, 1923, to members of the Central Committee and Central Control Commission, was one of the most important documents that led to the emergence of the Left Opposition.
To initiate its commemoration of the centenary of the founding of the Left Opposition on October 15, 1923, the WSWS is re-publishing an editorial by David North on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Left Opposition.
