(PNA File photo by Oliver Marquez) MANILA - Senators Joel Villanueva and Nancy Binay welcomed on Wednesday the plan of education chief, Vice President Sara Duterte, to resume full face-to-face classes by November with a few reminders to assure proper health protocols are strictly implemented in schools. Citing the National Economic and Development Authority's (NEDA) study saying that online or modular learning is only 37 percent effective compared to face-to-face learning, Villanueva said it is urgent for the country to get back the learning loss caused by the closure of schools and introduction of remote classes because of the pandemic. "Ayon din po sa NEDA, may kabuuang PHP11 trillion po ang mawawala sa bansa sa susunod na 40 years dahil sa suspension ng face-to-face classes at lost wages mula sa mga magulang na kailangang magpaliban ng trabaho para tulungan ang kanilang mga anak sa online classes (Also according to NEDA, the country will lose a total of PHP11 trillion in th ....

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire (File photo) MANILA - The slight uptick in Covid-19 cases may have been caused by campaign sorties, increased mobility, and non-compliance to health protocols, a health official said Monday. Over the weekend, the Department of Health reported that 13 areas outside the National Capital Region logged an increase in Covid-19 cases. These include Angeles City, Batanes, Butuan City, Catanduanes, Davao City, Eastern Samar, Ilocos Norte, Kalinga, Marinduque, Olongapo City, Quirino, Surigao del Sur, and Tarlac City. In a Teleradyo Sakto interview, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the recorded increase in Covid-19 cases is not significant as it has not overwhelmed the healthcare system. "Marami pong pwedeng dahilan ang pagtaas ng kaso, unang-una, syempre, 'yung ating minimum public health standards. Pagkatapos nakikita natin 'yung mga crowding talaga (There are many possible causes of the increase in cases, first of all, ....
HOME. Filipinos and their Ukrainian partners and children arrive in Manila from Ukraine on March 6, 2022. The evacuees have fled the war-torn nation following the invasion of Russia in February. (Photo courtesy of DFA-OUMWA) MANILA - Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday lauded the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for its continuing the repatriation and evacuation of Filipinos in war-torn Ukraine. Cayetano made the statement after the DFA raised the crisis alert level 4 for all areas in Ukraine "due to the deteriorating security situation", paving the way for the mandatory evacuation for all Filipinos. According to the DFA website, Alert Level 4 is issued when there is a "large-scale internal conflict or full-blown external attack" in the country. "We are grateful for the constant efforts of the DFA in making sure our kababayans in Ukraine are safe. Let us continue praying for their safety and the situation abroad," Cayetano said. He said ....
Partido Reporma standard-bearer Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson (File photo) MANILA - Partido Reporma standard-bearer Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Wednesday renewed his proposal on rightsizing agencies under the executive branch to optimize the delivery of essential public services and state-funded programs at less cost to taxpayers. In a statement, Lacson said this is among his plans to enhance government response during disaster situations, especially in areas where the local government units lack the capacity to provide immediate relief to affected citizens and handle everything. Lacson also expressed his reservations about the legislative proposal to create a Department of Disaster Resilience, saying a bureau under the Office of the President (OP) would be enough to consolidate the efforts of various government agencies in terms of responding to natural calamities. "Kailangan mayroong nakatutok, naka-focus na talagang isang. Huwag na nating gawing departa ....
