Mother and daughter team up for local charities — here's how you can help

A FAMILY separated by the pandemic are aiming to bring some cheer to the Isle of Wight with a raffle to raise money for local good causes, while geeing each other up as they embark on a February fitness drive. Dana Edkins-Wherry, who suffers from a genetic heart condition, decided to move away from her children and husband in order to shield with her mother after a positive case of the virus was confirmed at their home on January 2.

The charity is providing mutual aid in supporting the Island community during what continues to be an incredibly busy time for urgent and emergency services. It is part of a national contingency strategy. Throughout January and February the demand on the IW Ambulance Service has risen and COVID-19 related staff absences has put additional pressure on the service.

ST JOHN Ambulance (SJA) will be assisting the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service (IWAS) with 999 urgent and emergency responses as part of a national contingency strategy. The charity is providing mutual aid in supporting the Island community during what continues to be an incredibly busy time for urgent and emergency services. Throughout January and February the demand on the IW Ambulance Service has risen and Covid related staff absence has put additional pressure on the service. Victoria White, head of IWAS, said: “We are thankful to St John Ambulance for offering to work alongside us, their support will help us continue to care for our community as efficiently and effectively as possible during the pandemic.”
