Tsukii moves up in world rankings

Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold medalist Junna Tsukii has moved up in the rankings of the female kumite -50kilogram category as she improved to No. 8 in the list provided by the World Karate Federation (WKF).
Reason of that improvement was the gold medal win of the 29-year-old Tsukii during last week’s WKF Premier League, the first time she ruled the event after winning bronze twice in the past.
“World ranking #8,” said Tsukii in her caption with an emoji of the Philippine flag together with a screenshot of the world ranking on her Facebook page Thursday, May 6. ....

Karate team flies to Turkey next week

Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Jamie Christine Lim and Junna Tsukii will lead the national team contingent that is set to leave next week for a two-month training camp in Turkey.
Lim said Friday that the training camp in Turkey is part of their preparation for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Paris, France set in June.
“Ito na yung last push for our qualifiers (This is the last push for our qualifiers),” said Lim in the weekly Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Hour @Radyo Pilipinas online sports show.
“With this it’s really leveled up because it’s for the world, it’s for the Tokyo Olympics. It’s the biggest sporting event. I know it’s going to be difficult, it’s really prestigious,” added the daughter of PBA legend Samboy Lim. ....

Karate team also has SEA Games in mind in 'bubble'

WHILE qualifying for the rescheduled Olympic Games is foremost for the national karate team as it begins its training “bubble,” it also has its sights on the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games later this year.
Speaking at Tuesday’s online Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum, Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation, Inc. President Richard Lim shared that apart from the Olympics, they also have their eyes on the SEA Games in November in Vietnam.
“November may still be far, but for an athlete preparing for the SEA Games, that’s near,” said Mr. Lim, who was one of the guests in the forum along with Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) National Training Director Mark Velasco. ....

PSC underscores athletes' safety is paramount as training resumes

THE planned return to training of national athletes vying for a spot in the rescheduled Olympic Games at the weekend did not push through and instead was delayed by a week, but the Philippine Sports Commission’s (PSC) reminder on safety stays.
In a virtual orientation last week, the PSC reiterated that while the return to training of the athletes is very important with less than 200 days to go before the sporting spectacle to be held in Tokyo and final qualifiers for it just around the corner, such should not be done at the expense of proper health and safety protocols. ....
