senator joe manchin s team confirming that he will, quote, unequivocally not support any climate provisions in the democrats economic package or consider raising taxes on the wealthy or corporations. moments ago president biden took off for saudi arabia in a highly anticipated and controversial meeting with the crown prince mohammed bin salman. the president is seeking to boost oil flow and reset the relationship with the kingdom, less than two years after vowing to make saudi arabia a pariah for its human rights abuses. cnn s kaitlan collins and wolf blitzer are in jeddah, saudi arabia, where the president will be visiting. wolf, to you first. the president, before he left the west bank, met with the palestinian authority president mahmoud abbas this morning. he continues to advocate for a two-state solution, announced an aide, but right now there are no substantive talks between the israelis and palestinians. where do those negotiations stand and where does a two-state
responsibility, and it we can expect to hear a great deal more from her. i think she s also got to be quite tactical about this, because no doubt she has been positioning herself as a potential leader of the conservative party, and certainly as a leader of the right. she is not the only person in the conservative party that will run on that ticket should they lose the next election, and she will have a very strong competition from someone like kemi badenoch, for instance, who has been demonstrably more loyal whilst in government. i think suella has to pick herfights and government. i think suella has to pick her fights and be quite tactical about them. just in terms of democratic accountability, somebody in the house of commons needs to be talking about these issues, and quite frankly, reshuffles, because a great deal of excitement people in the westminster bubble, but they are pretty insignificant once you get outside s w one, as they should be, because people have real live
stand and where does a two-state solution stand, given that? everything i ve heard from senior u.s. officials is that they think that neither the israelis nor the palestinians are yet ready for a new round of direct peace negotiations. whether you want to call it shuttle diplomacy or get them all toyota in some sort of camp david accord as has been tried in the past by u.s. leaders. the israelis, of course, they re in the midst of getting ready for new elections right now. the government fell. so there s going to be new knesset elections, parliamentary elections on november 1st. so getting involved in peace negotiations in the midst of israeli political season is going to be difficult. president biden certainly appreciates that. and from the palestinian perspective, the u.s. fears that the palestinian authority leadership of president mahmoud abbas, they re also not yet ready to sit down and do substantive peace negotiations. the last thing the biden administration wants to do is
bachmann worries about british petroleum getting beat up. check out the sideshow tonight. we start with the bp oil spill and the $20 billion fund set up to fix things on the gulf. nbc political director chuck todd is our correspondent. chuck, what do you know about the inside? what the president was able to say last night and i was skeptical, that he had informed bp that they will have a $20 billion escrow account to start with? for about the last year, call it shuttle diplomacy, if you will, carol browner, the white house energy adviser, bob bauer, the white house counsel, doing and having these talks with bp about figuring out how to structure this thing, figuring out how to have this independent panel, so clearly the president knew, they had the outlines of a deal, but they haven t been able to cement it. no doubt politically, would the white house have been preferred to announce that deal last night as opposed to today you? bet they would have, but they got their deal today. this
