ST25 rice developer registers new brand in US

The Vietnamese developer of the world’s best rice has registered to trademark a new brand in the U.S. while still pursuing to reclaim the original ST25 brand.
A company in southern Vietnam has registered to trademark Gao Ong Cua (Mr. Cua’s Rice) in the U.S., referring to the rice developed by farmer-scientist Ho Quang Cua.
The company is Ho Quang Tri Ltd, which was established under the name of Cua’s son in Soc Trang Province where the ST25 rice is grown.
US opens opposition for ST25 rice trademark

The U.S. has published the application a company seeking to trademark the world’s best rice ST25 from Vietnam and awaits opposition from relevant parties.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on May 4 published the ST25 rice trademark on its official gazette for California-based I&T Enterprise, Inc.
Any party who believes it will be damaged by the registration of the mark may file a notice of opposition within 30 days from May 4.
Vietnam protests attempts to trademark local rice varieties in Australia

Vietnam has sent a complaint to intellectual property officials in Australia, saying exports of local ST25 and ST24 rice varieties were negatively impacted by a trademark dispute.
Nguyen Phu Hoa, head of Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, said the agency has sent documents and photos to clarify that the rice varieties named ST24, ST25 are developed in Vietnam by Ho Quang Cua.
