The Minister of Lands, Ms Beti Olive Kamya, has halted the planned eviction of more than 10,000 locals from a 12,737 acre piece of land in Ndoi Village, Kitwaara Sub-county in Kiryandongo District.
Ms Kamya made the declaration during a meeting with the affected persons in Nyamitete in Mutunda Sub-county in Kiryandongo on Friday.
The land in contention, which is divided into six ranches, was given to three companies in 2017 by President Museveni to pave way for large scale farming. ....

Patients stranded as officials close health centre in Buliisa

More than 150 patients of Butiaba Health Centre III in Buliisa District are stranded after the district authorities ordered the closure of the facility on Wednesday.

Health, land rights top agenda of Bunyoro newly elected MPs

Masindi, Hoima, Buliisa, and Kiryandongo districts mainly elected new MPs and ejected incumbents.
These include Mr Joab Businge (FDC), who defeated Bunyoro Affairs minister Earnest Kiiza in the race for the Masindi Municipality MP seat, Mr Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha (Bujenje – Independent), Mr Alled Akugizibwe (Buruli - Independent) and Mr Allan Atugonza (Buliisa –NRM).
Mr Nyendwoha said building a foundation of unity for easy lobbying and demanding better services in Bunyoro will be his first priority.
He said he will also lead a joint effort to demand a public university and expansion of Masindi hospital.
“If we work together, we will achieve more for our constituencies to push for what belongs to us,” he said. ....

The office of the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has cleared 79 groups to benefit from the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF) III in Kiryandongo District three years after the process was halted to weed out ghosts.
The groups, which were formed in 2017 from eight watersheds, were meant to receive Shs 2.1 billion, but the then Chief Administrative Officer, Ms Dorothy Ajwang, put the process on hold on suspicion that the numbers had been inflated. ....
