ISLAMABAD: The treasury and the opposition in the Senate on Monday were poles apart on the issue of Sindh and Balochistan islands going into control of the Centre, as the former defended the move as constitutional while the later termed it a bid towards One Unit.
Personal attacks and insinuations marred the proceedings, as the house resumed after a two-day break with Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair. The house had a discussion on the opposition’s motion on the alarming propensity of the federal government to usurp and subvert parliamentary and provincial rights guaranteed in the Constitution by attempting to rule the country by ordinances, especially the current case of attempted illegal land grab of Sindh and Balochistan’s islands as well as resources. ....

St. Martin News Network - Plastic carrier bags prohibited per January 1.

SABA: -The Island Ordinance of the Public Entity Saba to ban single-use plastic will go into effect per January 1, 2021, with a prohibition on the distribution and handing out of plastic carrier bags. Per that date, Sabans will have to bring their own bag to take the items that they have bought with them. The ordinance prohibits businesses to give out plastic bags for free. This is done to encourage people to use reusable bags, but also to help business owners save costs.
The ban includes bags made from bioplastic, which is a type of plastic made from a sustainable source, but which was chemically processed to have similar characteristics as regular plastic. The impact on the environment is therefore almost the same. ....
