While recent years have brought plenty of focus to flooding and other effects of climate change in South Carolina, far less attention has been paid to the causes, namely the planet-insulating greenhouse gasses that have made air and water temperatures rise around the globe.Â
South Carolina, for example, has no state climate plan to tackle these causes, though it has previously instituted modest goals for reducing energy use in state buildings. The city of Charleston has made some moves towards energy efficiency, but hasn t engaged in bigger steps yet, like installing solar panels on city buildings or converting its fleet of cars to electric.Â
