Rwanda is deploying an additional 2,500 soldiers to help Mozambique fight resurgent attacks by Islamic State insurgents in the oil-rich Cabo Delgado province.
The Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, has claimed that its fighters killed a Nigerian soldier in Yobe State. According to ISWAP in a statement, the soldier was killed when the terrorists attacked a military base in Gujba town in the Gujba Local Government Area of the state on Saturday morning. Gujba is about 30 kilometres away from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital. The terror group added that it razed two military operational vehicles.
The Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in Yobe State will in 2024 spend N200 million to “purchase 2nos of Air Conditioners”, a copy of the state’s 2024 appropriation bill obtained by SaharaReporters revealed. The ministry which has a budget approval of N1.131 billion for capital expenditure also plans to buy two television sets for N100 million.
