Indian Secular Front (ISF) MLA Naushad Siddiqui was detained by police in Kolkata while preparing to visit Sandeshkhali. He questioned his detention and criticized the ruling TMC party for blaming legal processes for the delay in the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan, who is accused of atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali.
The police, however, pointed out that Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in Bhangar in the wake of the recently concluded panchayat polls and accordingly, Siddiqui was urged not to visit the area.
Lone non-BJP Opposition MLA in West Bengal, Siddiqui says: "We also want one-on-one contests with BJP (for the Lok Sabha polls). But I feel that the TMC chief, while holding meetings with the Opposition, will break the Opposition"
