School officials mull safety options post-COVID

Elizabeth Aldridge, pandemic coordinator for the Pennsbury School District, said her thoughts and concerns on safety were “broadened,” causing the district to focus on disease control in addition to other health and safety affairs.
Pennsbury’s actions could not be set in stone with a simple plan; its health and safety plan is approximately 46 pages long, and is constantly being revised as new data emerges.
The plan involves strategies for prevention, as well as for coordinating buses, cafeterias, classes, student and staff behaviors, guardians and more.
Asked if pre-COVID school safety such as intruder-prevention was compromised by the pandemic, Aldrige stated that there is no difference to previous restrictions involving school access.   ....

Burlington County teen: A worsening environment impacts the poor, people of color

Instead of enjoying a period of prosperity, they encounter issues such as chronic illness, lack of affordable housing, unsanitary living and working conditions, intergenerational poverty, and more. In the midst of booming businesses, disenfranchised populations continue to suffer.  ....

Teen activism needs to be more than social media posts

Admittedly, I joined the group of people who posted a black square on #BlackoutTuesday, a collective effort to raise awareness of racism and police brutality. Through posting frequently, I thought that I was taking an active stance in my community. Although I attended marches and webinar discussions, I felt that I was preaching to the same audience.
Some of my friends continued to post constantly. While I understand their good-willed intentions, I feel that a different approach would be more beneficial. After participating in some webinars, I realized that I am not the only person who feels this way.
The best comparison I can come up with is when your parents repeatedly tell you to do something, and their request goes in one ear and out the other. The solution to this phenomenon is involving yourself in the narrative. ....
