Leg 27, Nov. 29, 2020: Boxford to Georgetown
For the third consecutive Sunday, we are back on the trail, hiking this time through Boxford horse country and into leaf-covered Georgetown Rowley State Forest.
This stretch included a little bit of everything – from quiet woods and historic neighborhoods to old reservoirs, a new boardwalk and a World War I encampment.
We started in Lockwood Forest and traveled north along the Nancy Merrill Trail to Fish Brook, a part of the Ipswich River that empties into the Atlantic Ocean near our ultimate destination – Plum Island. Above the remnants of an old mill, a small dam holds back a small reservoir system that bordered horse farms.
