Reds want wing-back and striker but deals 'very very difficult'

Barnsley are trying to recruit a striker and, possibly, a wing-back but Valerien Ismael admits it is ‘very, very difficult’ to get deals done in the final days of the ‘ugly’ January transfer window.
The deadline for transfers is 11pm on Monday, and the head coach says the Reds face a ‘fight’ until then, while he is confident of keeping hold of stars players such as captain Alex Mowatt.
Barnsley’s wing-backs Callum Brittain and Callum Styles have been two of their best players this season but Styles is naturally a midfielder while the back-ups are Clarke Oduor, also a natural midfielder who has barely featured for Ismael, and Jordan Williams who has been injured. ....

BEEFING STRIKEFORCE UP, ADDING WING-BACK DEPTH
Barnsley’s squad, assuming they do not sell key players or suffer any major injuries, is deep enough and good enough to compete for a place in the top half of the Championship. They have shown that already this season.
But, if they do manage to bring in another player or players in the final few days of the window, that might just give them a crucial extra edge in the second half of the season.

Barnsley hunt striker in final ten days of transfer window

Barnsley are searching for a new striker in the final ten days of the January transfer window.
Winger Luke Thomas was loaned to Ipswich Town this week, meaning the Reds are hoping to bring in some more depth for their front three in Valerien Ismael’s 3-4-3 formation.
The Reds are understood to have made a bid for Wigan Athletic s teenage forward Kyle Joseph.
Head coach Ismael told the Chronicle: “I said to the club that, if we let Luke go, we have to get a new striker. We have to find someone before the transfer window is closed and that is our purpose now.” ....
