From the white house. one of the journalists behind the report, cnn contributor, mark mazetti is with us along with shimon prokupecz. excellent work. thanks for joining us. you broke the story. how far did the president s to change the person overseeing the cohen investigation in new york go? the president made a call to matthew whitaker in november. he made this request about getting jeffrey burman put in charge of the investigation. what we report is whitaker knew pretty early on that he couldn t make the change. this was not something he was able to do within the justice department. so that was basically where that request appeared to end. we don t exactly have details about what he did inside the justice department. we do know that this was sort of part of just this general pattern of the cavalier attitude trump had towards his prosecutors, trying to change ....

Both sides i have working on this for a while. he could give them a week, four days, five days, whatever. and that doesn t change the report. it just adds onto it. there could be an appendix. then you have whitaker saying, oh, yeah, it could wrap up soon. why would he say that? i don t know why he said it, and that may just have been his sort of offhand observation. i don t know what it s based on. he said i was just fully briefed. yeah, i wouldn t i wouldn t put a whole lot of stock in that. why not? he s been fully briefed, but the question of whether that expectation is reasonable based on the briefing he got is something nobody knows including him. now, i want to put you in the position you like least, which i want you to own the decisions of the president on this very important issue about disclosure to the american people about his meetings with vladimir putin. make the case for why it s okay that he keeps meeting with this man and does things to conseal ....
