Nationalist parties have won a weekend election in Mostar, the Bosnian city that symbolises the communal splits and broken politics that have haunted the country since the 1990s war.
Sunday s vote was the first local election in 12 years in Mostar, which remains divided on ethnic lines between predominately Catholic Croats and Muslim Bosniaks.
The main Croat party the HDZ won in the city s Croat zones and was also leading across Mostar, with more than 37 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results announced by the electoral commission on Monday. ....

Voters in Bosnia s Mostar headed to local polls for the first time since 2008 after Croat and Bosniak politicians finally settled a row over election rules. Smaller parties may act as tiebreakers, early results show.

MOSTAR Citizens in Bosnia’s ethnically divided town of Mostar voted for their city councilors on Sunday for the first time in 12 years, after the rival Croat and Bosniak parties that rule the town agreed on long-disputed electoral rules.
The town, in the south of the country, is renowned for its Ottoman-era Old Bridge over the river Neretva, which was destroyed during Bosnia’s war in the 1990s but has since been restored.
