IPSWICH returned to metropolitan midweek racing with a strong line-up that included Melbourne Cup winning jockey Craig Williams.
The day had a southern feel about it with a strong field of Northern Rivers horses finding the line.
Shotgun Bobby created an upset win in the first at $16.90 on the tote to shoot home in the 1710m Maiden Handicap.
The gelding found his form for Ballina trainer Ethan Ensby, piloted by Chris Caserta to boost his prizemoney pool to over $30,000.
Fellow NSW Northern Rivers trainer Matthew Dunn had a win with Southern Swing, which has found his feet at Ipswich recently having back-to-back victories this month. ....

Impressive wins on popular race day at Ipswich turf club

THE Ipswich community came out in droves to support today s CFMEU Mining and Energy Labour Day races.
More than 2000 patrons enjoyed the sunny conditions to end the Labour Day weekend with a host of free carnival rides.
Thanks to the support of the CFMEU, the club rolled out the giant slide, jumping castle, rock climbing wall all free for the community to enjoy.

The day is a highlight on the annual club calendar. It has been supported by CFMEU Mining and Energy for 14 years and always draws a crowd with the nine-card meeting offering up lots of trackside entertainment. ....

Ipswich upset as filly shows true potential


ROTHSHADOW collected her maiden win in an upset today at Ipswich.
The $21 chance was well off the market but found her form to claim the 1100m QTIS three-year-old maiden plate.

Trained by Gary Doughty on the Gold Coast, the filly had a few trials before the debut start.
Rothshadow showed she has potential on the turf despite taking a step backwards on jumping.
Doughty said she was flat around the 300m mark but knowing her fitness levels was confident she would come home strong.

Winning return for jockey who likes Ipswich track


PREMIERSHIP-winning jockey Baylee Nothdurft returned to Ipswich on Saturday for one ride and one win.
The jockey took some time away from riding in December last year and has only returned back to the track this month.
Riding for his new stable of Steven O Dea and Matthew Hoysted s operation at Eagle Farm, the jockey took a positive step to relaunch his career earlier this year.
