ICC, in a media release, said, "Disney Star will be the home of all ICC cricket in India for the next four years having won the TV and digital rights to both men's and women's global events through to the end of 2027."
The broadcaster will pay 92 per cent more in rupee terms to retain the rights, where viewership across matches is completely linked to India's performance.
Disney Star retained their TV rights for the Indian sub-continent by paying Rs 23,575 crore, while Reliance-backed Viacom18 gained access to digital rights deal for Rs 23,758 crore.
That’s a 1.2x jump over the total base price of Rs 32,890 crore and a 2.5x jump over the Rs 16,348 crore Star India paid for the rights five years ago.
BCCI is looking forward to selling the broadcast rights for more than Rs 30,000 crore. If Reliance gets a sale, matches will be broadcast on Viacom 18 channels and Geo TV. If both Amazon TV and Digital are claimed, they have to contract with some companies to broadcast matches on TV.
