Local arts venues get Iowa Cultural Affairs grants

Players Workshop and Mount Pleasant s Midwest Old Threshers are among local arts and entertainment venues, organizations and individuals getting grants to help them recover from months of lost revenue due to COVID-19.
The Iowa Arts & Cultural Recovery Program, administered through the Iowa Arts Council and the State Historical Society of Iowa, is an extension of the Iowa Arts & Culture Emergency Relief Fund.
Players Workshop plans to use their $9,200 grant to help with utilities, snow removal and other necessities. 
Midwest Old Threshers is getting nearly $77,000, having lost an entire year of fundraising activities and events. ....

NIACC to Begin Broadcasting Events and Speakers

The North Iowa Area Community College Performing Arts and Leadership Series is pleased to announce that it has received an Iowa Arts & Culture Recovery Program from the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. Grant funds will support a high definition camera and broadcasting system in the auditorium to allow for virtual streaming of artists and speakers.
The Iowa Arts & Culture Recovery Program was established on December 2, 2020, when Governor Kim Reynolds allocated $7 million of federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs for the purpose of providing economic relief to Iowa’s arts and culture industry. The funding is administered by the Iowa Arts Council, on behalf of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, through the Iowa Arts & Culture Emergency Relief Fund. Governor announces $7 million in support for coronavirus-hit Iowa arts


To be eligible, applicants must have been offering programs to the public since March 2019. The department said Veronica O’Hern, the Iowa Arts Council’s grant services and artist program manager, will answer application questions via email at veronica.ohern@iowa.gov. 
At Hoyt Sherman Place, the historic, 1,252-seat theater in Des Moines Sherman Hill neighborhood, Executive Director Robert Warren was wasting no time seeking a share of the assistance, which can range from $1,500 to $250,000, depending on the amount lost to coronavirus-related disruptions.
