REPORT OF FATAL COLLISION - NEWS RELEASE

On 05/26/2024, at approximately 7: 13 am, a male driver was driving a white Nissan Altima westbound along SR-190, approximately 2.5 miles east of Furnace Creek Wash Road, at approximately 80 miles per hour. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove off the roadway and onto a dirt embankment causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times. The driver was located lying on the dirt shoulder of SR-190. Initial investigations suggest that the driver possibly fell asleep while driving, causing him to drive off the roadway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a Death Valley Park Ranger. Personnel from the California Highway Patrol, Park Rangers from Death Valley, and the Inyo County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash scene to assist with the incident. This crash is still under investigation by the CHP. ....
