March 10th, 2021 comments On February 13, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada issued its largest Invitation to Apply (ITA) in its Express Entry application intake management system. Previously, the Department had invited on average around 3,000–4,000 people to apply for permanent residency. The February 13 invitation was for 27,332 people in the Canadian Experience Class. According to IRCC, over 90 per cent of those invited resided in Canada. Those invited have 90 days to submit their permanent residence applications. An unintended, although arguably foreseeable, consequence of the massive increase in invitations was the strain that it put on third party service providers. There were reports of Panel Physicians, the doctors who are authorized to provide immigration medical exams, becoming fully booked for several months. British Columbia issued 95 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residence on March 9. Selected candidates who were from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate subcategories needed a minimum provincial score of 80. The province has now held 12 draws so far this year, bringing the total number of invitations issued to date to 1,926 in 2021. Invited candidates have 30 calendar days to apply for the nomination. The province of Ontario has issued 484 invitations to Express Entry candidates through two provincial immigration streams in the first draw of the year. These two enhanced Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are aligned with the Express Entry system. Candidates who received an NOI in this draw had to have Express Entry profiles that were created between January 13, 2020, and January 13, 2021. The Skilled Trades Stream allows the OINP to search the Express Entry pool for candidates currently living in Ontario who have a minimum of one-year full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work, in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73, or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC). ....
