Florida after some very bad weather that we had earlier in the week. On monday specifically. But today is a nice day and people are enjoying this nice day in south florida. Then this happened at 11 30 this morning. Taking a look at the boats out there, right over the airplane that went down according to the coast guard in approximately 20 feet of water. It may be less than that. Look at the choppy conditions out there and how that boat is swerving as a result of being right over where this plane went down. Later on we can check with john on the weather conditions and the wind conditions and if that played a factor in the plane going down. You see the Police Officers are there right over the plane. But a little earlier we saw with their shirts off that may have been the two passengers on this. And this is the Indian Creek Village fire rescue boat out there. Give them credit. We saw two young men who may have been on the plane. They were hugging each a they had smiles on their faces and
Shapes. But i want to give you the wind gust reports first, we got in from the National Hurricane center, wind gusts of 55 Miles Per Hour in stewart florida. That is north of jupiter, forth of west palm beach. We have been watching this inner eye wall, and outer eye wall, the potentially eye wall replacement cycle which tends to indicate a strengthening hurricane, but as you look at this radar loop just in the past hour weve already seen some changes. It looks i can loo tlike the in getting absorbed by the outer ring. This is about 60 nautical miles wide and that was taken by hurricane hunters. What is also interesting is its a doubleedged sword, whether or not when the storm comes closer to florida whether we are looking at the larger eye wall or the smaller one. Inside the smaller one we are seeing the more intense winds. The outer maybe 10 o to 15 miles an hour less. But its wider, you are impacting a larger area if it were to continue in this northwest direction. Watching the radar
Theyve move the inland, thats part of the problem. There are other dangers, too. Weve just been placed under a tornado watch. Tornadoes can often responsible out of a weather system like florence. That is just one more thing that the people of north and South Carolina have to contend with in the evening hours. Cnns ed lavendera is in jacksonville, North Carolina. Ed, youre in a neighborhood that has been flooding since this morning. I saw you earlier and the water is coming up fast. Reporter this is a neighborhood along highway 258, north of jacksonville. Its a neighborhood where you look out here into the distance, where people are really just holding on and bracing for the worst. That is all they can do at this point. Many homes here, just to kind of give you a lay of the land, if you look back there in the distance, that tree line, there is a river that cuts its way through, and all of this water that is flooding into this neighborhood is coming out of that neuse river. If you look
i ve spoken to somebody else who has just returned, he lives on the next block beyond where we are. he said, listen, this place will flood at the drop of a hat. the problem here, it s actually from both sides. we can get the storm surge and the surf from this way. there s also the intracoastal water way which runs a couple of blocks back in town. if that inland fresh water flooding, if some of that water makes its way down here, these people could get hit from both sides. these houses on the beach, a lot of them are built on stilts so the surge can t go underneath. further back there, there are a lot of homes, a lot of condos right on the ground that are ripe for flooding. listen, we ve been predicting another ten inches of rain for this weekend. those predictions may be right. but hopefully, hopefully, we will not see the storm surge. we have another high tide in the middle of the night tonight. if that coincides, again, with these very strong onshore winds, with he may see some inund
we had high tide about 15 minutes ago, the first one of the day at 12:20 eastern time. if we pan down to the right you can see where the light ends, where the sand, the beach ends and we get into some of that dark area, that is sea grass and a little bit of a dune there. i don t suspect that we will see any water up into the streets getting anywhere near land i at avenue. to push it into the roads and inland into some of the inlets out toward the intracoastal water way. around the lunchtime hour, and that one could be a lot more interesting, especially if we see winds topping 100 miles an hour at this point. now, we still have some pretty decent breezes back here. you can see the stand of palm trees blowing pretty decently at this point. i would say we ve got a sustained 25 knot wind at this point. we do expect obviously that is
