A planned survey of Red Sea corals by an international team of scientists will need to be postponed until next year after the much-heralded expedition ran aground just a day after setting sail from Eilat last week, one of the scientists on board said Sunday.
The Fleur de Passion, a former Nazi ship re-outfitted to carry the scientific expedition, is still stuck on a reef in the Straits of Tiran with untold damage to it, and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of scientific equipment could be in danger, Prof. Maoz Fine, one of six scientists aboard the ship, told The Times of Israel. ....

University of Essex study examines affects of microplastic on fish | Clacton and Frinton Gazette

Seabream - university of Essex study
IT appears all fish might not be equal when it comes to how they are affected by microplastics, according to new research from the University of Essex.
A new study shows that within the same species of fish there are differences in how much microplastic they individually ingest.
And the research found the fish which ingested the largest amount of microplastic may be more vulnerable to predators as their startle response was slower.
The rising tide of plastic debris in the world’s oceans has become one of the main ecological issues of the 21st century. ....
