The presidential search committee at Florida International University announced that their pick to lead the school is Interim President Kenneth Jessell, praising the former professor as "brilliant" and "kind". He initially said he wasn't interested in the top job, but an influential trustee encouraged him to apply. Jessell was appointed after FIU’s previous president, Mark Rosenberg, resigned amid accusations of sexual harassment.
Florida International University opened its doors to students 50 years ago. Half a century later, the school is one of the largest universities in the country and has gained a national reputation for helping Latino and Black students succeed.
The President’s Council brought the university community together during a networking event that raised more than $50,000 and capped off a stellar year of gift-giving.
In a visit to the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, USAID Administrator Samantha Power said the agency plans to “be more intentional” about recruitment and hiring at FIU.
