interest rates has affected things quite a lot then. it is due of course to bond yields having gone up quite significantly over the last number of months as well. let s remember the u.s. economy is still in positive territory at this point. that positive territory means consumers and investors aren t necessarily interested in treasury bond yields. so in order to entice more consumers, you have to raise the yield. how do you raise that? well, the bond price goes a little bit lower, the yield goes higher, and that s why you re seeing those bonds reach those levels. investors also looking out for higher yields just because, for example, they are looking at inflation persisting at these levels. just very quickly as a quick example, if you were to take out a 30-year mortgage bond with a 20% down payment at the average interest rate level you re seeing right now you d pay $2,300 per month. pricey. i feel bad for all those people trying to buy their first

hinted at the idea that the interest rate level that they stop at, the so-called terminal rate, may need to be higher than some people anticipated in the past. one of the other things, though, wall street isn t going to get exactly what they want out of fed chair jerome powell either today or tomorrow. the reason why i say that, jose, is because many people, investors and traders on wall street are looking for hints about what those policy decisions will be on interest rates. how much will they do it by? how frequently? the problem right now, jose, is the fed doesn t have all the data. later on this week, we re going to get even more jobs data, including the non-foreign payrolls report on friday, which many consider to be the most important economic data release every single month. next week, we have consumer price data coming out, as well as business-level or producer price index coming out. all of that before the fed s interest rate decision in two weeks. fed chair jay powell today i
