New Delhi: Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana on Saturday took over as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India.
He is now the 48th Chief Justice of India (CJI) and succeeded the post after Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde.
President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office to Justice Ramana in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and many other dignitaries at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Justice Ramana, a first-generation lawyer passionate about Carnatic music, will have a tenure of around one year and four months and will retire on August 26, 2022. ....

Justice NV Ramana was administered the Oath of office by the Indian President Ram Nath Kovind as the new Chief Justice of India.
He will be the 48th person to hold the post and his term will end on August 26, 2022.
Previously, he was the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and the acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. He has also served as the president of the Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy.
He is a first-generation lawyer, having an agricultural background, and hails from Ponnavaram Village, Krishna District in Andhra Pradesh. He is an avid reader and literature enthusiast. He is passionate about Carnatic music. ....

Sharad Arvind Bobde Friday said he was leaving the Supreme Court with happiness, goodwill and very fond memories and the satisfaction of having done his best.
Justice Bobde, who decided several key cases during his tenure including the historic Ayodhya verdict, was administered oath as the 47th CJI in November 2019 and is retiring today.
He headed the Indian judiciary during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic ensuring that the apex court kept functioning albeit via video conferencing.
I must say that last day has evoked mixed feelings which is difficult to describe. I have been a part of the ceremonial bench before but did not feel such mixed feelings which could enable me to say things clearly. ....
