NORTH EAST — While acknowledging to success of First Fridays in Havre de Grace and Elkton, members of the North East business community are instead hosting “Second Fridays” starting Oct.
CAT Club, or Citizens Against Trash, is a program started by Al Peteraf, a Realtor and office manager with Integrity Real Estate in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Since 2013, Peteraf and volunteers of all ages and walks of life gather every Saturday morning to pick up litter around the Havre de Grace area.
With a grabber tool and a bucket, volunteers look for cigarette butts, candy wrappers, bottles, plastic and many other types of trash they find on the ground.
People who volunteer are families, school groups, Scout troops and individuals who just want to help out.
Picking up trash prevents it from getting into local streams, and rivers that eventually end up in the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
