ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said government senators are being approached to gain their support for the opposition’s candidate in the upcoming election for Senate chairman.
On the other hand, ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has so far not announced its candidate for the office of deputy chairman, keeping the slot open and placing itself in a better bargaining position to ensure support of its allies and independent candidates.
Presiding over a meeting of his spokespersons, the prime minister vowed to win the chairman’s post despite opposition’s majority in the upper house. ....

ISLAMABAD: The government has accomplished categorisation of all public sector departments, giving them the status of “autonomous body” except two departments i.e. the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Post Office.
After stiff resistance from the FBR officers and other staff, the federal government has so far deferred its decision to declare the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as an autonomous body (AB) because majority of the staff preferred to remain within the fold of public sector employees. So they opposed any move for classifying it as an autonomous body. ....

Adviser to PM defends civil service reforms - Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Dispelling the impression that the recent civil service reforms are the brainchild of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), the powerful cadre of the bureaucracy, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Institutional Reforms Dr Ishrat Hussain has claimed that the reforms were finalised after over 60 consultative sessions and more than 1,900 officers contributed to the process.
The federal government on Jan 21 announced the reforms that would pave way for ‘forced’ retirement of delinquent officers from government service and have introduced tough criteria for promotion of the bureaucrats. ....

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has said that the biggest challenge for the government was fixing the cash bleeding energy sector and the government had finalised a roadmap for bringing reforms.
“The whole electricity sector from generation to transmission and distribution has been strangulated by the Government of Pakistan and the main reforms are doing away from clutches of GoP and to introduce market driven private sector-owned reforms,” Federal Minister Asad Umar said while addressing the 13th All Pakistan Chambers President Conference (APCPC), organized by the Rawalpindi Chambers of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) in collaboration with the Jang Media Group here on Thursday. ....
