The University of Kentucky Office for Institutional Diversity is now accepting nominations for the Emmett P. "Buzz" Burnam Inclusive Excellence and Expansion Impact Award.
February marks the start of Black History Month a time dedicated to recognizing the achievements, contributions and rich heritage of Black Americans throughout history. The UK Martin Luther King Center Black History Month committee, in collaboration with units across campus, has created a rich calendar of events that will inspire the campus to commemorate the past, analyze the present and dream for the future.
Have we taken our eyes off the prize? This is the question fueling the theme for this year’s annual MLK Day observance. The University of Kentucky, along with the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government and other community sponsors, will kick off this year’s MLK Day celebration at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 with the annual holiday Freedom March, beginning at Central Bank Center in downtown Lexington. Directly following the march, the Commemorative Program will be held at 2 p.m. at Central Bank Center.
UK has also been recognized as a 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Diversity Champion by Insight into Diversity magazine. UK is one of only a handful of institutions in the nation to receive this honor seven consecutive years.
