Phase 3 vaccination programme delayed

PHASE 3 of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) may not take off this month due to vaccine supply issues, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.Saying that the current Phase 2 is running smoothly, Khairy added that priorities given to developed countries by pharmaceutical companies is causing delay for Malaysians to get vaccinated.“Phase 2 is ongoing. Phase 3 is supposed to start in May, but I don’t know if we have enough supplies. We need to make an announcement on that,” he said at a press conference at the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

EU, Belgium assure to fulfil vaccine supply agreements, vaccine plans on track

KUALA LUMPUR: The European Union (EU) and Belgium have given assurances to fulfil their vaccine supply agreements with Malaysia, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar. Khairy, in a statement today, said with the assurances of both the EU and Belgian Ambassadors, Malaysia’s Covid-19 immunisation plan is expected to proceed according to plan. He said the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV) took note of the recent announcement on export controls by the EU of the Covid-19 vaccines manufactured in the EU. “Today I held discussions with EU Ambassador to Malaysia Michalis Rokas and the Belgian Ambassador to Malaysia, Pascal H. Gregoire, for further clarification regarding the status of these vaccine deliveries to Malaysia.
